We went on The Great Festival Hall tour . English speaking at 9am Monday, but do check the website for dates and times. We used our Salzburg cards. Entry is behind the post with faces on it , they open the iron gate at the side of the shop about 15 minutes before the tour. Hermann was a lovely man & excellent guide. Informing us about the festival hall productions and all the hard work that goes into producing the performances. He also explained the history of the Festival hall. We were amazed to see so many beautiful theatres along with the one all us Brits know from The Sound of Music. This used to be a cavalry training area The back arches and walls are all carved out of the rock. I had no idea that a large section of the seating in the main theatre actually lifts up. I cannot recommend this tour enough And a big Thank you to Hermann 👏👏
Watched a great performance of Juan Diego Flores and V. Scalera at the end of Summer Program. It was worth travelling 600km! Very dignified audience, beautiful building, helpful and kind staff.
Good acoustic, a little bit small seats ( if you are above average in height).. very nice location
We took a tour of this place. The leader spoke in German throughout so we hadn't a clue what he said! Thankfully a lady translated a few things for us. Beautiful place to see, especially for the Salzburg festival scene in the Sound of Music - you can see the wall of rock with arched windows, etc...
Took the tour in German, was very boring. Not very interactive. Tour guide old man was not nice, not engaging, and I would not recommend it. The receptionist said the tour guide prefers taking German-speakers on all tours, which are supposed to be in German and English. Seems discriminatory, and the bad vibes were certainly felt as he made poor jokes about English speakers in German. Not very professional. I do NOT recommend!
