Reviews
Located within the Belvedere Palace complex, this specialized alpine botanical garden was founded in 1803 and is considered one of the oldest alpine gardens in Europe. It houses more than 2,500 species of alpine and high-mountain plants, focusing on flora from the Alps and other mountainous regions. The garden is open seasonally from April to October and is operated by the Natural History Museum of Vienna (NHM Wien), with a strong emphasis on the conservation of endangered plant species. Note: It is separate from the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna.
It's a nice little garden with a small bonsai collection. Gets 2 starts because cost 4.5 euros and doesn't give anything extra. Just visit the free Botanical garden next door. It's a good place but not worth more than a euro or two.
A charming little garden packed with plants in a natural setting. The bonsais are very good !
Whether it’s worth visiting really depends on the season, in my opinion. The entrance fee is €3.50. When I visited in April, the flowers hadn’t bloomed yet—as I could see from the entrance—so I decided not to go in.
I couldn’t tell you how disappointed I was to find out that the access fee to the Alpine Garden can only be paid by cash. I could not enter and visit for that reason, hence my incredible disappointment. It looks adorable, though, and well maintained.
