From the outside it looks like a bookshop, but it is actually an experimental theatre production where the staff/cast compete to see which of them can be the most unpleasant.
Interesting niche store with high-quality German books. Tiny English section (but I expected mainly German books). The shop definitely has a feminine vibe with lots of Hannah Arendt and Martha Gellhorn books. They also have a charming children's book section and a tasteful shop window display.
I visited a dozen of bookshops in Vienna and the shop owners or staff were all very friendly and helpful, except this one. From the look on her face, I can tell that the owner (or the staff) didn't like my answer when I told her that, me, my husband and my 8-year-old were just browsing. I was thinking to myself we should leave in a few minutes and it was at that moment another lady shouted over my shoulder, at my son. Thinking my son did something destructive, I quickly turned around and walked over to him, only to find that he was just picking up one of the small books placed in a bowl. My son is an avid reader, he loves books. I do not know how we offended her to warrant such reaction. We left after that. By the way, we are tourists from Malaysia.
small bookshop with flair. anna jeller is a very friendly, literate bookshop-owner, it seems as if she has read all the books she sells ;-) if you need help to find a book for yourself or as a present, just ask her for recommendation. she never disappointed me.
