Café Sacher

Honestly, I didn’t find this the best Sacher cake in Vienna — it’s good, of course, but not my favorite. In my opinion, there are better versions elsewhere, and the prices here are quite high for what you get. That said, the Viennese Melange was excellent and really enjoyable. Overall, a nice experience for the history and the atmosphere, but not a must for the cake itself.

If you want to truly experience this pastry and not just eat it, this is the place to be! Not only do they serve incredible tortes, but they also bring the story, tradition, and fun behind them to life. Every cake we ordered was a masterpiece, unique, refined, and perfectly balanced. But here’s the secret : the unsweetened Chantilly cream on the side. At first, you might think, Do I really need it? Oh, trust me, you do! The magic happens when you combine them elevating the flavors, adding elegance, and keeping everything beautifully balanced without overwhelming sweetness. Small but life-saving advice: Please, for the love of good desserts, don’t skip the cream! If you try to eat the torte without it, well… let’s just say, you might find yourself gasping for a sip of water.

Be aware that the queue is pretty long, so you will have to wait in line at least 20 minutes, depending. We obviously tried the sachertorte, which to be completely honest I was so disappointed (very dry) and the taste was super common... Instead, we were glad that we also ordered the apple strudel, which was worth it. Nevertheless the prices are quite high, we paid almost 50 EUR for 2 cakes and 2 teas All in all, I would say that it's worth going to try it once, but I would not come back for the second time.

I went there for the cake, obviously. The cake was delicious, nor dry as I read online, but it's true that I didn't taste too much the jam. On the service side was super bad. The waiting time for my case was mainly due to the waiters being super slow in every aspect of the service. In the end, we were 4 tables waiting to pay, and we had to ask a couple of times to pay. All in all, I would say that it's worth going to try it once, but be aware that there are some negative aspect to consider.

I had to try it because I mean I’m in Wien and who else can make a Sacher Torte better than Sacher? Well I’m not a pastry chef but you will need a knife to cut the top thick layer of chocolate and not a little fork… I had better cakes somewhere else in town. I was served by a very kind lady tho. I booked online months before but if I had to wait I would probably not come.
