Reviews
A little out of the city centre, this restaurant provides great food and a charming atmosphere. Most of the ingredients, wines and beers are locally sourced. There is a wide selection of wine from across Austria and service was efficient and knowledgeable. Clever cooking without losing sight of the flavours and nicely presented. We would return here without hesitation.
The food was mediocre, the wine selection dull and limited, and the restaurant was very smoky on arrival. I find it incomprehensible that the Michelin Guide recommends this place when there are so many excellent alternatives in Vienna.
Nice intimate atmosphere! Best service in Vienne so far! Food was delicious and delightfully served, tasty wines. Food from local Austrian ingredients with good quality. It was a bit tricky to find at first since there are no major signs on the street but it is definitely worth finding it.
Couple dinner, the food was outstanding as well as the service. I had a particular question about the savoury strudel and the chef went personally to the table to explain how he made it (it was delicious!). Only flaw, it was the smell from the kitchen that was really strong and impregnated our clothes - maybe it was a temporary issue with the aspiration system. Very good experience overall! Would love to come back!
I hate leaving a bad review, but sometimes I think it’s important, so here is my honest review of my time at Tempel. We went at an awkward time, granted. It was us and another couple, and that’s it. So I’m not talking about the ambience. I ordered the soup with veal dumplings and my partner had to wash it down with water when she tried it. I thought as much, but managed to just spoon off some of the soup. She ordered the potato gratin which was just mediocre. Just meh. Our server was lovely and welcoming, but I have to say we both felt pushed to order. I can’t remember the last time I felt so pressed to make a decision. He wasn’t rude, he was just pushy. He then said that it was common practice in Vienna to tip, even though I was looking at the page on the machine to tip or not. I reluctantly tipped, feeling I had to because he made the comment. Mind you I’ve been living here for a month, and I haven’t been pushed to tip. I usually do 10%, but on principal, I wasn’t happy. I really can’t stress to whoever is reading this how unpleasant the soup was. The food was not deserving a Michelin recommendation. I’m sorry, but not even close. We could have just copped out with our choices and our timing, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Vienna. I’m sorry. I may hear that if I was unhappy I should have said, but complaining on a first date, I’m sure you can appreciate, is the last thing I wanted to do.
