Heunisch & Erben

We enjoyed our evening at Heunisch & Erben, even if it didn’t offer the variety we had hoped for. The relaxed setting and competent service fit their wine‑bar‑meets‑casual‑fine‑dining concept, though we missed a bit of warmth. The very small tables felt cramped, especially with multiple plates and a wine cooler. Our six‑course menu was pleasant but covered little ground. We chose two bottles from their list, but judging from our neighbors, the wine pairing might offer the more coherent experience. A good evening overall, just not a transcendent one.

wow! dare i say that i've had the best meal of my life here. swung by during an impromptu trip to Wien back in June 2025, and my oh my - I had a ball here. i felt that everything about Heunisch und Erben was in the best way, ridiculous. ridiculously long wine list (even that by the glass), ridiculously grand space with the high ceilings, ridiculously great food, and last but never least, ridiculously wonderful hospitality. i might sound ridiculous, but wow, i have never been so ridiculously amazed by a restaurant like this. the risotto dish i had then is genuinely the most mind-blowing dish i have ever had in my life. i was taken aback by how much soul, flavour, and energy the dish had. it was one of those moments which simply captivated my full attention that i was not fully aware of what i was enjoying. this experience, was of course enhanced by the extensive wine list by the glass which had about 50-100 options (crazy, i know!) and the wonderful service i received. i was guided through the food menu and wine list with great care and detail, and it was truly such a fulfilling experience. i remember leaving the venue feeling like the happiest person on earth, just by how great the dinner was. though i wish i understood/learned about the wines and dishes i've had in full detail (for educational purposes), i would not have imagined this dinner to turn out any other way. magical! and i truly cannot wait to return. danke schön!!!

Can a restaurant be considered a “favorite” after just one visit? If you care about wine go here and try to tell me the answer is no. Super deep and cool btg list, which is nothing compared to the bottle list. Excellent food, friendly and helpful service, I’ll come back every time I’m even close to Vienna.

Sven who served was super helpful and knowledgeable in his wine recommendations. Their wine choices by the glass and half glass was not just exhaustive but well chosen. The decor is minimalistic yet classy and the the overwhelming sight of bottles is just what separates a good from a great wine bar. They have 4,7 and 9 course tasting menus but we chose from the a la carte menu. If you are in Vienna it’s a must go. I do like the fact that it has very few tourists and I hope my review does not ruin it for the locals :-))

They offer a very extensive wine selection, which is impressive. However, the prices are quite high. There are plenty of other places nearby that provide equally good drink selections at much more reasonable prices.
