Reviews
Tried to make reservation but it was full. Got t on the waiting list instead, but never got a seat for two nights. Instead walked in around 3pm and got a seat for one hour. Ordered Dragon which seem to be the signature. Good for price! It was the soy sauce that seems pretty salty.
Mochi in the 2nd district is no longer an insider tip, but a local institution—and for very good reason. What truly sets Mochi apart is the team. Despite the fast pace and the fact that it’s always fully booked, the service remains remarkably attentive, swift, and consistently friendly. It’s clear that these are professionals who are passionate about what they do. The menu offers a wonderful journey through modern Japanese fusion, but the undisputed highlights are the Sashimi and Sushi. Sashimi: The quality of the fish is second to none—melt-in-your-mouth tender, served at the perfect temperature, and incredibly fresh. Sushi: The creations are bold, creative, and perfectly balanced in flavor. Every single piece feels like a small work of art. My friends from Southeast Asia were surprised about the quality and authentic flavors which reminded them to their local cuisine. A night at Mochi isn't just a meal; it’s an experience. Be sure to book a table well in advance!
Overall nice sushi experience with little downsides. First of all, service was really friendly and our dishes came out quite fast (the kitchen seems to be well prepared). For a starter we shared the tori karaage chicken with some rice. The dipping sauce (chili mayo) fitted very well with the super crispy chicken, although I recommend a side dish to cut the fatiness. We then had the surf & turf, crispy buddha and the dragon roll. For the surf & turf my only complain is that the truffle mayo overpowered most of the other ingredients, so I couldn‘t really taste the beef. Regarding the crispy buddha roll I have to say that the portion size could be a bit smaller (with more pieces then), as it‘s quite big and you couldn‘t eat it in one bite, so it kind of fell apart. The dragon roll looks stunning and was my favourite (maybe a tiny bit salty). For dessert we had black sesame ice mochi, which we enjoyed. For drinks I recommend the Mandarine Kardamom Ice Tea. Make your reservation way ahead of time, especially in the evening it‘s often fully booked. For the price tag (nearly 100€) there is still a little room for improvement.
Got the Kirin room for our group of 6, had room to spare. All of the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the signature dishes, particularly the brussel sprouts or the salmon with carrot/ginger dressing as those were group favorites. The cocktails were tasty and we enjoyed the sake selection. The surf and turf roll also was a stand out. We ended the meal with mochi, which had a wide variety of flavors. Our favorite restaurant we tried in Vienna!
I heard it was some years ago rewarded as the best restaurant value for money in Vienna. All our expectations were true. They have amazing food at reasonable prices. Definitely worth visiting it.
