Reviews
This is a great museum to visit in Austria. It’s a very beautiful building with a rich history of Austrian military that shows how connected all of Europe really was and adds a deeper understanding of the Habsburgs and the empire they built. It has an impressive collections of military paintings, uniforms, and weapons.
For only 3.50e (or 2.50e for students) you get the opportunity to visit a phenomenally arranged military museum with excellent exhibits, from uniforms, sabers, rifles, the vehicle in which Franz Ferdinand was assassinated to bunkers, bombs and trenches with a display of military equipment. On the ground floor you will find an exhibition dedicated mostly to WW1, while on the first floor there is a display of the war against France during the 18th century as well as the revolution in the Habsburg Monarchy! The translation is mostly available in German and partly in English. It is recommended that with the same ticket for the military history museum, you also visit the panzerhalle, where various tanks are displayed with descriptions of what they were used for and what year they date from! All recommendations and a must visit, especially considering that it belongs to the cheaper museums in Vienna.
A huge museum with very detailed exhibits covering Austrian military history from the 1700s to modern day. Even though quite a few of the halls were closed for maintenance, just the WW1 exhibit itself is worth going for. The ticket also includes access to the tank hall which has dozens of armoured vehicles on display. For just 3.50 euro (2.50 for students), its probably the most value paid attraction in Vienna.
Located near Belvedere, this museum is definitely worth a visit. When we went, the section about Ottoman soldiers was under restoration, but it still has magnificent artifacts related to the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. If you are interested in history and wars, this museum is for you.
This impressive war museum offers a deep dive into Austrian military history, leading right up to the First World War. One of the most striking exhibits is the car involved in the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, a moment that changed the course of history. Walking through the museum truly feels like stepping into the “old world” — a fascinating and memorable experience for any history lover.
