Rathausplatz

Rathausplatz is one of Vienna's grandest public squares, but during Advent it becomes something truly magical. The Wiener Christkindlmarkt transforms the space in front of the magnificent Neo-Gothic City Hall into a sea of lights, wooden chalets, and festive aromas. With hundreds of vendors, a towering Christmas tree, beautifully decorated walking paths, a restored carousel, Ferris wheel, and seasonal displays throughout the adjoining Rathauspark, it's much more than a Christmas market. It's an entire holiday village. One of my favorite features was the famous ice skating trail that winds through Rathauspark. Rather than simply circling a rink, skaters glide beneath illuminated trees and through the park, making it one of the most scenic skating experiences I've seen anywhere. Despite the crowds, the market never lost its charm. Every direction offered another stunning view, whether it was the glowing Rathaus, sparkling trees, or families enjoying the festive atmosphere. Sipping a warm mug of punch while wandering through the stalls was the perfect way to spend a winter evening. If you're visiting Vienna during the Christmas season, this is an absolute must. Even if you don't buy a single thing, the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The Wiener Christkindlmarkt perfectly captures why Vienna is considered one of Europe's premier Christmas destinations.

Rathausplatz is a beautiful and lively square. I was lucky enough to visit during the Christmas market, which made the atmosphere even more special with the lights, stalls, and festive spirit. It’s a great place to walk around, enjoy the surroundings, and feel the city’s charm.

Visiting the Christmas Market at Rathausplatz was a highlight of my trip! It made me want to go back to Vienna during Christmas season. I loved everything about the Christmas market – the stunning city hall, the amazing shops, and the great food, especially the Langos! The atmosphere was amazing, and the famous Wien heart made it even more special. ❤️❤️❤️ This is the best Christmas market I've ever been to!!! 🥹🥹🥹💖💖💖

Rathausplatz is an easy 5‑star spot. The square is stunning, full of energy, and surrounded by beautiful architecture. Whether it’s a market, an event, or just the everyday atmosphere, the place feels lively and iconic. A must‑see in Vienna.

Wiener Eistraum is just an amazing place. Highly recommended! Great services, perfect ice. Tickets are best to buy online...but onsite terminals are also fine. Lockers for 3.20 skates for 9.50 also OK. The only negative was the evening que for returning of keys and skates...but still overall 5 stars. Will return ...
