The Sigmund Freud Museum is a deeply enriching and reflective experience, especially for adults and those interested in Freud, psychology, or history. It is quite moving to walk through the actual space where Freud lived and worked. The effort taken to recreate the environment using original furniture, artefacts, letters, and documents is remarkable. What stood out to me was that the museum does not focus solely on Freud as an individual, but also presents a thoughtful account of his immediate family and their lives. The family tree displayed in the bathroom was surprisingly helpful in contextualising his children and relationships. The special exhibition on Freud’s forced departure from Vienna and the impact of the Anschluss on him and his family was particularly painful yet important to read. The letters and official documents serve as a sobering reminder of the lived experiences of Jewish families during that period. I also appreciated how the museum connects past to present, especially through its explanation of the long and complex restitution process — this made the experience more than just a historical walkthrough, but a space for reflection. The museum is text-heavy, as most exhibits are reading-based, but the English write-ups are clear and accessible. We spent about 2.5 hours reading through most exhibits. Visiting with two children (aged 10 and 12), I found the simple sticker cards a thoughtful touch to keep them engaged while we explored. Overall, this is not a “touch-and-go” museum, but one that rewards time and attention. I deeply appreciate the dedication and tenacity of the individuals involved in collecting, preserving, and curating such an important body of work. A truly experiential and meaningful visit.

This was a specific visit, I grew up knowing about Sigmund Freud because my Mom is a Psycologist and she talks a lot abot him. So, my very first visit in Vienna was here. It was like a tribute to my Mom. I learned more about his life and now I can tell that to my Mom. The private tour was incredible, the person that gave the tour to my group was very knowledgable. I must visit in Vienna for sure.

Really enjoyed the time being in the museum. Nicely kept and described. Was interesting to know and read some facts about Mr. Freud and his family. The short documentary was something I also liked. There is a cafe which had nice cakes and coffee.. staffs are very friendly and helpful. Overall good experience and can recommend if you’re in Vienna.

I visited the Freud Museum in Vienna recently and as a psych student, it was a great experience. It’s very informative, and I learned a lot about Freud’s life and his family. The temporary exhibition about his family and their struggles as Jews was especially moving and gave a lot of context you don't usually get in class. The only downsides were the layout and the crowds. It was honestly hard to figure out which room to go to next because there weren’t any signs for a natural continuation of the exhibits. Also, the rooms are pretty small, so it felt way too crowded. It would be much better if they didn't let so many people in at the same time so you could actually have space to look at everything. Overall, it's definitely worth a visit for the history, just try to go when it's not busy!

I really liked how extensive the museum was. Although it was located on one floor, there was a lot of information, and I learned a lot about Sigmund Freud. Not only about his insights into psychoanalysis, but also about his personal life and how his family was affected during World War II. It was very sad to learn that part of his family had to emigrate to London and Sigmund Freud's four sisters died at concentration camps. I really liked the interpretation of dreams section. There are three dreams that Freud interprets which are available as audio files that you can listen to, and I enjoyed that experience. I also liked the activity where I could collect different pieces of paper that are placed next to boxes with information. It was also interesting to look at some of the things that Freud possessed back in the day, and to actually walk in his apartment felt surreal. Logistics information: 1. The museum had lockers for bags/backpacks 2. There are restrooms in the museum
