Old Town Bridge Tower

The view was very beautiful! You could see the Charles Bridge and the prague castle at the same time and especially in the evening the view of the setting sun is stunning🤩🌅 The price is a bit high, but I would say the view is worth it, especially in the evening! It seems that you can also buy the tickets in advance, however we were able to buy them directly before going up without any waiting time🕦 You should be aware that there is a lot of stairs climbing though🙃

Old Town Bridge Tower isn’t just a gateway at Charles Bridge but it is one of the most deliberate pieces of medieval propaganda ever built. It was designed as a stone manifesto for Charles IV. This tower wasn’t defensive first, it was ideological. Built in the late 14th century under Charles IV, the tower’s façade works like a visual argument From bottom to top: Earthly power → Czech kings, Divine approval → patron saints, Heavenly authority → Christ himself, Message to anyone entering Old Town "The king rules Prague with God’s blessing". Those statues aren’t decorative, they’re political. Above the arch you’ll see St. Vitus – spiritual protector of Bohemia, St. Wenceslas – symbol of Czech statehood and St. Adalbert – legitimacy through Christian tradition. They frame Charles IV and his son Wenceslaus IV. Translation in medieval language: Dynasty + saints = unquestionable rule.

It serves as the main entrance to Charles Bridge - built by Peter Parlèř. Indeed a beautiful tower but I didn’t went inside to see personally because for sure the stairs are steep. It is also included in the Prague Visitor Pass

The Old Town Bridge Tower is iconic as it lies entrance to the famous Charles Bridge in Prague. You cannot miss it. The imposing tower stands out with its gothic architecture and is visually impressive. I visited recently this year in Sept 2025 and it was heaving with people. Whilst I didn't go up the tower, I appreciated the exterior of it. It is very big and visually pleasing to the eye. There is an information plaque that tells you about the history of the tower which is insightful. Be patient as there are many people, well when I visited and this was Sept. You can still take good photos but you will need to angle yourself in the right position and click FAST! Sometimes its good to have "some" people in your pictures just for perspective.

Iconic structure before you enter the Charles Bridge, beautiful view on top of the tower towards Charles Bridge and other directions as well. Do come for the first opening hour from 10am to 11am. The tickets are 50% off from the normal price. Kids under 5 is free.
