Dusk The Angel of Peace monument, or Friedensengel, is one of Munich's most sublime spots, and the timing of your visit is crucial to experiencing its true magic. While beautiful during the day, the evening time is undeniably the best. Positioned on a hillside overlooking the city, the monument provides a breathtaking panorama, especially when the sun begins to set. As dusk settles, you get that spectacular view ahead—the golden hour light hits the statue, making the figure of the Angel gleam, while the sky transitions through vibrant oranges, pinks, and deep blues over the city skyline. It's an exceptionally peaceful and cinematic view that feels quintessentially Munich. Adding to the appeal is the proximity to the River Isar. A short walk down from the monument leads you directly to the riverbanks, which also offer a nice view and a completely different atmosphere. Strolling along the Isar at this time provides a relaxed, natural counterpoint to the monumental splendor above. For photographers or anyone seeking a moment of quiet reflection as the day ends, combine a visit to the Friedensengel just before sunset with a concluding walk along the Isar. You won't be disappointed by this perfect pairing of civic beauty and natural tranquility.

Beautiful place and monument the Angel of Peace (Friedensengel). The monument consists of a small Greek-style temple on a two-tiered base. A 23-meter-tall column rises above the temple's roof, topped by a gilded bronze statue of the Angel of Peace. Modeled after Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory, the statue stands 6 meters tall. The monument was built in 1899 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the peace treaty following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871.

A peaceful and scenic spot in Munich. Worth a stop during any sightseeing tour. I often come here just to enjoy a quiet coffee break. At sunset, the light and atmosphere make it feel almost magical. Definitely a place to slow down and reflect.

Beautiful spot to stop by while walking along the Isar river. The view from the top is lovely, especially at sunset. Not a lot to do here, but it’s peaceful and scenic. Worth a quick visit if you’re nearby.

From the Bavarian National Museum, we walked towards Isar River to take in some views before taking bus 100 back to our hotel this evening. Beautiful views on a sunny day with the Angel of Peace in the background... For more details of our 5 months trip around the world, visit 2bearbear today!
