My husband and I absolutely loved it here. We bought tickets on arrival. The staff were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There is plenty to do, we spent a good 3 hours looking around then went for a drink in the cafe on the top floor. Amazing 360 degree views of the city from the viewing deck. Lava tour was good and ice cave amazing. Lots to see and do, including a planetarium. Learnt lots about Iceland.
This was one of the most amazing museums I have ever been to. The interactive experiences, sounds and facts were poignant, immersive, fun and exciting. The trip down into the volcano was exceptionally awesome and very realistic. We were absolutely memorised. The ice experience was very cold and we did get stuck being some slow people, but, totally worth it. We were just in jeans and a fleece for this. We did the aurora experience last and had lined up perfectly with our tour for tonight. Stunning show with very comfy seats. We highly recommend the restaurant on the top floor. With a stunning view and the lamb soup was Michelin quality. Free lockers to stash rucksacks and coats and just an incredible place. Worth every penny and we will definitely go there again when we return.
A interesting museum to visit, exploring the different areas with the explanation of volcanos and glacier along with sea creatures and a huge POLAR BEAR!! Even going through a man made ice cave which is very cold so do bring some extra layers. After which we went to the upper floors to enjoy some desserts and relax before continuing on our next journey.
I really enjoyed visiting the Perlan Museum — it was such a fun and immersive experience. The museum has a variety of interactive screens and exhibits that make learning about Iceland’s nature exciting. You can explore different floors, each telling a unique story about the land, glaciers, wildlife, and natural phenomena. The way they use technology to bring animals and plants to life for example, with lenses or screens that reveal detailed information is especially great for kids and families. It made the visit both educational and entertaining, and we had a lot of fun exploring it together. Perlan is built on top of a group of huge hot-water storage tanks that were originally part of Reykjavík’s geothermal system, and a striking glass dome sits above them so yes, the building has a fascinating architectural history tied to its original function as water tanks. One of the highlights was the man-made ice cave. It felt wonderfully cold nearly as chilly as a real glacier and reminded me of the time I visited a real glacier. The cave experience was so photogenic, I took even more photos there. Inside, it can get around −15 °C, so be prepared for the cold! The layout is thoughtful and spacious, with enough room for a few people to walk together comfortably, and the interactive nature of the exhibits keeps you engaged throughout the visit. All in all, it was a great stop — educational, beautifully designed, and enjoyable for visitors of all ages. 👍🏼👍🏼Because I had already seen the real glaciers and natural landscapes, the experience felt familiar to me. However, I can honestly say that if someone is not able to visit a real glacier or explore Iceland extensively, the museum offers a very similar experience. The man-made ice cave, in particular, feels impressively realistic. Of course, it’s missing the vast snowy landscape outside, but inside, the details are very well done and immersive.💛💛 For me, it was a pleasant and well-designed experience. But for someone who doesn’t have the opportunity to explore the glaciers or travel around Iceland, Perlan would be an excellent alternative and a truly worthwhile place to visit.
The Perlan museum is a must visit! I learned so much about the history of Iceland. It was nice to learn more and piece things together after going on excursions the days before to some of the locations up on the wall. The shows did not disappoint and I was happy I was able to experience the new show they had just added within the last couple of months. Finishing everything off with the view at the top and a pizza in the revolving restaurant was the perfect ending to the day. Please visit!
