This is one of the most popular bakeries in Reykjavik, and for good reason! We loved their pastries and couldn’t help but go back for a second time right before we had to fly back home. Get there early if you can! The crowd seems to pick up after 9:00A. In addition to serving up a variety of baked goods and chocolates, Sandholt is also a restaurant that serves actual breakfast and lunch dishes. When we went in at 9:30A one day, the entryway was packed with people waiting in line for pastries and others waiting for a table to dine in. + POPPY SEED BUN: This twisted golden bun was soft and bready, sprinkled evenly with poppy seeds and drizzled with a light sugary glaze. The bun itself didn’t have a strong flavor, but it goes well with a cup of coffee and was a great way to start the day. + PISTACHIO DANISH: This flaky pastry had a slight crispiness and was swirled with crushed pistachios. The layers were buttery and thin and I liked how this wasn’t too sweet. + BROWN SUGAR BUN: A must! Similar to a cinnamon roll, this bun was delightfully soft with a brown sugar cinnamon spread inside. Small pipings of frosting came on top, finished with crunchy chocolate pearls. Some of the brown sugar was caramelized on the bottom of the bun, giving it a little extra chew. It was such an indulgent treat. Pricing is not too bad considering the great quality of each pastry. If you only visit one bakery in Reykjavik, make sure it’s Sandholt!

So many desserts and pastries! This place was great. The vibe was amazing and great place to catch up with friends. Had the pasta of the day which was a creamy mushroom pasta. The sourdough bread was so good and served with a whipped butter. In addition the apple danish was beautifully presented and tasted even better.

We could see this place from our window and knew we needed to start our first day touring Reykjavik here. Good luck not wanting one of everything from the bakery! We opted to wait about 10mins to sit at a table. It's clearly a very popular place and also run very efficiently. I cannot recommend the bread, butter, and jam enough; it was really wonderful. I'd opted for the shakshuka, which also did not disappoint and I eagerly shared with my family because the portion was much more than what I could tackle alone. They serve this beautifully whipped and salted butter on a river stone that was really just perfect in every way.

I absolutely loved their coffee and breakfast! I was so impressed that I had to bring home their sourdough pumpkin seed bread, and I’m totally head over heels for it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy spot with amazing baked goods! ☕✨

Great little spot for coffee and pastries! 🥐 Breakfast will take a little bit to come out if you dine in. Simple menu but creative. We enjoyed our stop here.
